✌↓↓ Donate Link Below 😎 My name is Brent and I live in central Arkansas. Love to dabble in traditional, container, vertical, hydroponic, and greenhouse garden systems. I love it all. I began breeding vegetables in order to acclimate them to my local area's high heat. It's has since become a passion to breed my own unique vegetables, each with adaptations, tastes, and novel qualities that cannot be found anywhere else. For me, it's edible art and an outlet for my creativity. I would love to hear from you. Join the conversation and share who you are here with me!
Quick, Easy, and Clean Eggplant Seed-Saving Technique
Eggplant can be an irritating seed-saving project if you're trying to get most of the seed within the fruit. This is what I like to do now and it's really much easier in my opinion. A bonus is the introduction of a possible new hybrid eggplant with potential.

How to Prevent Disease in Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Cucumber, & Squash
Просмотров 9421 день назад
This trial goes against common knowledge of ridding these crops of seed-borne disease. It's proven scientific knowledge that it works with some vegetables, but most say it won't work with cucurbits like watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumber, winter squash, summer squash, pumpkin, and more. It didn't make sense to me so, of course, I trialed it for myself! This is my results. #raisedbedgardening #ver...

Mechanized seed saving chore using household equipment...excellent. Next spring about 100 volunteers show up by the white water barrel...lol. Great idea. Beats some of the alternatives that are time consuming. Take care and thanks for the share.
What is hammocking the melons? Something purchased?
A support net.
That is my goal, to breed a purple beefsteak or slicer. I have a bunch of heirloom seed varieties to test it with.
Ours didn't start producing blooms until fall during the first year, but in subsequent years they have produced through most of the year. They do lose flavor during rainy seasons, otherwise they taste pretty good and are worth it. Wishing you the best of luck with these!
Thanks! Great info to know.
Love those thornless varieties. Following your progress in training the canes. Blackberries seem to go from 0-60 in doing what they want it seems. Nice growth in such a short period of time. Happy Gardening.
I've never tried these. I hear they're a bit of a compromise, taste to berry size, not being quite as good as the smaller ones from Arkansas, but much bigger. Of course, the best is no thorns followed by constant bearing. I'm still not seeing blooms. Waiting patiently Mr. Peter.
Show how many days they need to grow & how to support the little tomatoes😊
Always enjoy your videos
Thanks!
There are Indeterminate & Determinate Dwarfs.
Do you have a video for growing wheatgrass?
I'm sorry, I don't with that one.
Where do you get your coco coir?
If you expand my description under the video, you'll see a link to my Amazon store. Click on it, then my garden area. It displays all I use including the Coco.
I trimmed my onions last year, and the onions were small when harvesting. This year, I didn't trim, and my bulbs are bigger. I would appreciate it if someone could explain when the bulbs start protruding above the soil and should cover the bulbs with soil before harvesting. Thanks,
Bulbs should only be planted shallowly, with their tips barely below soil level. The bulbs will then naturally grow above soil level, and there is no need that I'm aware of for covering them with soil at any time.
@@rad1sh480 Thanks for your response.
Did you use any silicon mesh for this so the seeds would not fall through the holes? Did you add a top weight for the germination to leave the seed hulls behind? thx
No silicon. That was tried first many years back. It wasn't good enough. Since, I've written two books on the subject and have a playlist of over 100 videos on micros. To answer your questions for this one specifically. I likely used what I use now, poly food-grade mesh. Same stuff as dehydrator mesh. I use two sizes for all sizes of micro seed. A cover is used in all of my micros and serves as the weight. My style is called IHG which stands for Intense Hydroponic Grows and I am the one who pioneered hydro growing. If you want to know more, hit the playlist videos especially the ones in the last 3 or so years. I also have a book listed in the description.
Sauce not toss 😢
You quickly run pass the info about the fungicide with much details how we can get it. You quickly mention that you made other videos about it. I searched your video list and could not find anything about the fungicide????????
Search "Antifungal". I almost always refer to it as that, actually in the books it's "Super Antifungal". I did a search myself to make sure that my advice to you is correct. You'll find a few videos with the recipe. The newer videos will be the most updated, but essentially they're nearly the same.
Wow! All of the little nuances and subjective differences between what we like in fruit. Certainly makes for an interesting comparison . From the wall thickness, crunch, sweetness and pepper flavor or lack thereof, nice to have variety. I guess that's why deciding on the "best" fruit of any variety is so difficult. We might not be able to describe what we like but we'll know it when we find it. Thanks again for the share and Happy Gardening Brent.
Science and art combined. It certainly is subjective. Gina and I often do not agree. I'll save seed from the other plant too I think. I never know if I'll go back and regrow it. Often, I've tasted both parents which helps in comparisons. In this case, neither. Never tasted Corbaci and it's been so long with Nardello.
Glad you found one that you like. I was liking the looks of the left one before you did the taste test. I like that they took after the corbaci more than the jimmy nardello on wall thickness. Good luck with the next generation.
I'll grow a couple of these next year along with potentially a few of the old seed. I tend to do that in case there's a find to be had in older seed that's better. When I bought the seed, it said it was F3. I get confused sometimes myself identifying my own saved seed. Was the seed you put up for sale from an F2 plant meaning the seed was F3 or was the plant itself F3 and the seed F4. I goes to how much next generation seed I plant. The closer to OP, the less plants I grow. Right now, I'm thinking the seed saved is F4 without your clarification. I do prefer the yellow to red vs green to red that Corbaci imparted too. Good cross brother.
@@C3Voyage Yes, the seeds that were for sale were from an F2 plant, so they are F3s. I'm also growing a couple of F3s this year. Yes, the seeds you are saving this year will be F4s.
Corbacci and Jimmy nardello are two of my favs! This is exciting!❤
I'm enjoying this one.
Really great video on a unique type. With the production, size and flavor I think they would make a great sweet pepper powder. That is if any made it into the house over here without being snacked on. LOL Midwest is going crazy with all the unique types over there. That is one high in the 'grow bucket' list now though. Thanks for the share!
He's a pepper-head as I call them. I'm a tomato-head by comparison. Although he is getting into tomato now and I've dabbled in pepper for a long time. Thanks for stopping in. I'll keep watching your stuff buddy.
Very interesting.
You don't add nutrients to the water?
Interesting, can it serve as a growing medium for Irish potato?? What are other things needed?
Yep. A bit of research maybe with a will to make it happen. Lol. Honestly, I'm not sure what you're asking for in the second question.
your flowers are bigger than the ones on my cherry tomatos.
Yes, mine were slicer size. Same process.
"Growing to create"... Tough and many times a thankless job but when successful very rewarding. I wonder how many gardeners are out there trucking along, attempting to be successful in the same type of endeavor you enjoy, not posting, sharing results with the world? Thanks again for sharing the successes and failures with us so we can learn and think about a different side of gardening. So as with all things in life..."Fail Faster" so you can get to your successes quicker. Happy Gardening Brent!
Fail faster. I like that. I may adopt your quip! Best Peter.
I just started growing figs this year. I've read a lot on care and fertilizing plus a friend's guidance who has lots of experience. I know they like a little dolomite lime, fertilize once a year, compost, let them dry out a bit between watering. Since you are in the south do you have root knot nematodes? If you do add some crab meal to the soil.
I mean, it could be, but they're growing in containers, not native soil.
@@C3Voyage I'll see if my friend has any ideas
@@C3Voyage My friend has never seen anything like it. Says if you recently purchased them ask the people you bought them from.
how big are your fabric grow bags?
10 gallon.
@@C3Voyage thank you!!!
Good demonstration. Thanks.
I tried this yesterday. Tried to cross a Centiflor with a Burpee Cherry Baby. NOT as easy as you make it look. I have the same type tweezer but had trouble opening the pedals covering the female part.
Absolutely! These are slicer tomatoes. Cherry tomatoes are a bear because they're tiny flowers. Also, in a cherry, the anthers that cover the female part you have to gently pick at the base 'cause they don't want to separate from each other easily. Doable though. I've done it many times. Choose the larger flowered parent to emasculate and get pollen from the other one.
@@C3Voyage Thanks so much for the additional tips. I will give it another try once this damp period ends this weekend.
Where did you buy your seeds from?
The ones in the video was from Fruition seeds. I bought from Johnny's for this year. I do that because sometimes, different seed companies use different farmers. I trust Johnny's more, but honestly last year and this year appear the same and they likely both bought from the same farmer. This is common practice amongst seed distributors. They all buy from the same 3 or 4 suppliers. It's cheaper and gives more profit.
Thanks so much. I bought seeds from bakers creek and they were half the size of yours. I'm not sure if it was because the weather. I planted them sometime during April and I harvest them yesterday July 21. I'm in zone 8A and the temperatures around here in South Carolina have been pretty hot above the 90s. So not sure if that's why the plant gave me such tiny squash. I cooked them yesterday and omg were they delicious. The best tasting squash I have ever tasted. I saw yours and looked the perfect size and I want to plant the seeds again for a fall harvest , but want to try a different seed company. I'll order from both places you recommended. Again thank you
How do they taste?
Well, nothing like Emerald Sweet. They're not as good. Very productive and likely good for pickling, but fresh eating, eh.
Great video. I tried this and it works! The zip ties are genius and simple
I am not good at using clips when smaller. Most fail. So frustrating, but this way, it works every time. I'm speaking mostly to tomato-tomato grafts. I did get pepper and eggplant too which was cool, but only once each.
Good show !
Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I've definitely need to up-pot my 2 fig plants. Love the sandwich bag air layering idea...also, I was a bit concerned with the exposed baggies to solar heating ( greenhouse effect) until I saw you had put a foil covering over it to protect them. As an experiment, take a baggy full of moist potting mix and put it in direct sunlight and check the internal temp with a probe thermometer at 3 in the afternoon, with and without the foil covering. The results may surprise you. I spray paint my clam-shell air layering devices with white paint to keep the temps inside down. Following your progress with the figs. Thanks again and Happy Gardening Brent.
First time figger. First time baggy air layering too. Looking forward to the adventure. I'd prefer they were in the ground, but it may be too cold here.
Thanks for the video! How many days after putting in the tray do you spray with AntiF?
Every day till the dome comes off.
Everything is looking great. I really like the overhead trellis idea.
Thanks Jim. It's been pretty cool so far. Keeps things tidy.
How many tomato grow in 1 plant
From 0 to 500 depending on the tomato variety, environment, and care.
I love those sweet pepper varieties you have. I usually pickle them with shredded cabbage, cucumber slices and green tomato slices ratio 1 part pepper, 3 parts shredded cabbage, 1 part sliced cucumber and 1 part sliced green tomatoes. Make your usual pickling solution and add a few chopped up hotter peppers if you like. Happy gardening and thanks for the show and tell.
Hey Peter. I'm waiting on my 4th variety to ripen--the big pepper--and I plan a taste test comparison video. We call what you make chow chow. It's so freakin' good. Love it with a bit of spice. Calibry, at various color stages, is pretty cool. If you have an interest in one, let me know this Fall. I'll send you some seed.
@@C3Voyage Growing up my Mother would make it by the gallon jar. Daughters make it for me now...as long as I supply the veggies. 😊. Appreciate that offer and I'll take you up on that for next years garden. Take care and happy gardening Brent.

Great review, thank you! Glad I wasn't the only one that found them rather bland.. Still a very pretty tomato.
"nice juicy SWEET corn". Oh no. You should try a field corn, not a sweet one - it tastes sooooooo much better. Sweet corn is tasteless watery nothing compare to that. Idk why americans eat sweet corn, but they are weird people, even their bread is sweet 🤦
Hi...I'm having major issues with beetles eating my egyptian spinach plants..do you have any tips as to whatvto use for this problem? Thx
Brent what type of water soluble fertilizer do you use on your tomatoes
Masterblend mixed with Calcium Nitrate and Epsom as directed on the label. Been my only one for a decade plus. Discovered it when I started hydroponics.
That's a very nice setup
Thanks CLG!
You are not the only person to say that about the taste of the purple tomato. My hubby tried it and said it wasn’t sweet as expected so he was done. I saved the seeds for a few people but didn’t bother with it. The brix was like 4.9 it just wasn’t worth it to me to even try it.
I saved a ton of seeds. I won't grow it again. Every cherry I'm developing is much better in taste. Of course, there's not nearly as much antho so that's a consideration I guess.
Spotted those small "icebox" size melons while you were cleaning up...love them so much!. Man, you got so much going on. Looks great. Keep the content coming when you have the chance and thanks for the share. Happy Gardening.
I do have a ton going on! Just replanted summer squash and zucchini today.
No kidding, a bunch of videos say you have to ferment seeds like mother nature does. 50/50 I guess. I'll try it both ways.
Why ferment? Fermenting is inconsistent. I've killed off tomato seed fermenting for 3 days. I've also had gel remaining after 3 days. The effectiveness of fermenting depends on the environment and the variety. As a breeder, I've been devastated by fermenting losing a whole generation a couple times. It's why I came up with this. The supposed value of fermenting is two-fold: remove gel and kill of pathogens/disease. The fact is that it doesn't kill off much disease (experience). What most commercial ag, seed companies, and universities suggest is other forms of control as disease can reside on or in the seed itself. The one I advocate for and practice is hot-water treatment as it's easiest for the home gardener. I have videos up on it. It's easy. Quite often, I've learned that people do things because they simply follow the advice of someone else and that gets regurgitated over and over. Often, there are better ways and it's my position to only give advice by showing off things that I've actually found to be true time and again from research and trials. All said, fermenting is ok too if monitoring, but it's still taking a chance for the seed-saver.
Thank you for your time:)
Awesome video. So like if you used this as a smoothie powder, would you use less than something like AG1 because microgreens are more nutrient dense, or???
Nice adaptation of the sous vide rig. I pre germinate my seeds in small, plastic condiment cups (2 oz), with a toilet paper substrate for easy separation . Easier for me than using zip lock bags and paper towels and the TP disintegrates when transplanting. Paper towel method had the roots get tangled up and damaged when taking them apart. Same cups, TP and water. Had several seeds (all from major seed company packets) bloom a black mold and eventually kill off the pre germinated seedlings. I duplicated with a second batch of the seeds showing the mold, again in the same cups and another in fine sand. Same results. I do it this way since it doesn't introduce the mold or anything else into my trays if I direct sowed into seedling starter mix in pots in my 10/20 trays. I bottom irrigate and may have cross contamination thru the water. I like your wicking trays. Happy Gardening Brent.
I like the sound of your method as an extra precaution. Happy gardening Peter.
This beats soaking them in water for two days! WOW
Great video Brent , I've never heard of this technique but I will certainly be trying this thanks so much for sharing 👍
It's my pleasure. 100% it works especially in tomato. I'm getting more confident it's worth doing for all vegetables especially for those saving their own seed. I doubt most people know that they're inadvertently causing their own problems. I had to learn that myself.
